Liquid soap or bar soap? We have all asked ourselves this question at least once in our lives, perhaps just before making a purchase for our bathroom.
For years there has been a debate about which is the best product between the classic solid soap that we all know and the liquid soap dispenser that in recent decades has become increasingly popular, in some cases completely replacing the soap bar.
Between new scientific discoveries and sudden denials of what we thought we knew, it is not always easy to orient ourselves on the type of soap that we should have at home.
The truth, as often happens, lies in the middle: both liquid soap and bar soap have their pros and cons, which must be evaluated before choosing the type of soap we prefer. However, nothing prevents us from using them together.
In fact, the best thing to do for both our body and our hygiene is to understand in which situations it is better to use the bar soap and in which the liquid soap.
Today we will talk about one of the actions that we do most often during the day, namely washing our hands.
In this situation, which type of soap will be more suitable? That is, is liquid soap or bar soap better for washing hands?
Let’s evaluate the main aspects of both types.

Why wash your hands with soap?

Soap needs no introduction: it has been with us for generations, and perhaps many of us remember the beautiful handmade soaps of our grandparents, almost too beautiful to be used.
Soaps allow you to perfectly dose the amount of soap needed, avoiding a lot of waste.
Furthermore, they do not need preservatives or stabilizers, as they do not contain water, but only soda and vegetable and animal fats. For a vegan choice, you can opt for natural soaps, which usually contain only vegetable oils, essential oils and some types of extracts derived from plants.
Soap is completely green, being biodegradable, and what’s more it is not packaged, or at most it is contained in a paper package, which is also recyclable.
It is also quite versatile: if you choose a quality soap, you can use it in place of shower gel and not just to wash your hands. Furthermore, it is ideal for travel, as it takes up little space and does not have to comply with the legal limit for transporting liquids.

Why wash your hands with liquid soap?

Liquid soap has entered the collective imagination thanks to the feeling of safety it inspires. In fact, I believe it is common to think that it is more hygienic to use soap contained in the dispenser, since it is not in contact with everyone’s hands.
This is certainly true, however both liquid soap and soap bars are safe from this point of view, as the soap bar is continuously rinsed with water.
Despite this equality in terms of hygiene, liquid soap is preferred for obvious reasons in public places.
The perfect hand soap should respect the natural pH of the skin, which has a value of 5.5. Many people do not worry about the pH value when buying soap, however a pH that is too high could alter the natural pH of the body, making the skin rough and more prone to wounds, especially in the winter.
This problem does not arise with liquid soap, because there are many types with a very low pH, if not neutral. Liquid soap is therefore the ideal choice for those who have sensitive skin or need to wash their hands several times a day and are concerned about keeping them soft.
